COMMUNITY SUPPER

During the fall of 2002, four Boise Bench area churches, All Saints Episcopal, Sacred Heart (Catholic), Wright Community and Whitney UMC, joined forces to take turns providing a free hot meal once a week to the public. Whitney's Community Supper is held from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM on the third Friday of each month.
An average of 68 attended each supper during 2007 with the highest attendance being 102 in December.
Of those attending during 2007, 17% were children under 18 years old, 55% were between the ages of 18 and 59, and 28% were 60+ .
All meals consist of a meat, several vegetables, rolls with butter, milk (both white and chocolate), coffee and dessert.
Two teams, one lead by Dean Kubena and the other by Marc dePeo, take turns preparing the meal. Dedicated servants step forward each month and set up the tables, man the serving line, visit with Whitney's guests and clean up afterward. Others donate food items such as salad mix, salad dressing, desserts and on one special occasion, steaks.
High chairs are provided for children needing them.
Talented individuals and groups provide entertainment during the meals.
On the nights of the Community Supper, Joseph's Closet managed by Cindy Kubena and located in the basement of the Education Building makes available warm outer clothing for those needing it toward the conclusion of each meal. Each year over 100 coats along with related winter accessories are given out.
