The Tasters adult christian education class led by Dennis and Claudia Moberly is open to anyone and meets from 11:00AM - Noon in the conference room at the back of the church office in Vernon Richards Hall and gets a "taste" of contemporary topics.
The Tasters’ Class recently completed a video/discussion series of the Frontline program, “Remaking American Medicine.” One point of emphasis was the need for every individual to manage their own health information and ensure doctors and hospitals are accurately informed about a patient’s medical history and ongoing treatments.
At the end of the class we asked ourselves, “What can we do, as members of Whitney, to help others manage their own care better and help prevent costly medical errors?” Information about a problem wasn’t enough; we wanted an action plan for improvement. The form that follows is the class’s response to that question.
We encourage every member to complete this form and keep it current. Whether your medical history is simple or complex, your health care professionals need the information it contains to give you the best treatment possible. Then, carry the completed form with you at all times. Give a copy to your spouse, a family member, or close friend who is involved in your health care. After your own form is completed, share a blank form with your parents, siblings, grown children, even friends and neighbors. Keep a copy of the completed form for your parents and children so you can be an informed medical advocate. One copy of this form is in the Family Folders of those who regularly attend Whitney. It's also available for download at the link below.
America is blessed with some of the finest medical care in the world. By becoming our own advocates in this system, and by being medically informed about those we love, we can make that care even more effective. Reach out in love and Christian care to those for whom you offer care or who might find themselves caring for you. We are our brothers’ keepers.
